Jedward through to Eurovision Final!

Eurovision Semi final number 1 is over.

Set in Baku, Azerbaijan, it had everything you’d expect from Eurovision. There were pretty hosts (who weren’t chosen for their hosting ability) throwing out the corniest/cheesiest lines. There were lots of questionable outfits, dance moves, and songs (that’s what this contest is all about right?) But Eurovision is so bad that it’s so good – isn’t that why we all watch?

The biggest offenders of the night were Montenegro (I have no words for that entry), Israel (their entry made me feel like I was at a wedding watching a bunch of locked aunts and uncles storming the stage), San Marino (as someone on twitter said, “that is going to be the first social networking song not to go viral!” and anyway, is that really a country?) and Latvia (the dancing bridesmaids singing about Johnny Logan). These songs won their national competitions, what must their other ones have been like?!

Jedward, representing Ireland with Waterline, did not disappoint. They may not have the best voices but they are made for this contest with their energy, ‘tin man/robotic’ costumes and water feature.

We were all left hanging though as Ireland was the last entry to go through! Everyone’s nerves were shot but the boys got rid of their nervous energy and showed their excitement by cartwheeling down the stage. This is not bias speaking, I really think they could win the competition this year!

Greece (who is also through to the final) was very impressive with Aphrodisiac

And I can’t go without mentioning the Russian Grannies, Buranovskiye Babushki. They were both trippy and adorable!

The 10 countries that went through were (in the order they were read out, not in order of popularity):
1. Romania
2. Moldova
3. Iceland
4.  Hungary
5.  Denmark
6. Albania
7. Cyprus
8. Greece
9.  Russia
10. Ireland

These 1o countries join the 6 that have automatically qualified:
1. Host Country Azerbaijan
2. Italy
3. Spain
4. England
5. France
6. Germany

The second semi final is on Thursday with the grand final taking place on Saturday night.

That’s Entertainment!

About The Bellissimo Files

My name's Sarina Bellissimo and I am a TV/Movie junkie. I can’t remember a time when I wasn't fascinated by all things Hollywood/showbiz. I blame my parents! As a child my mum used to force me to watch Elvis Presley films with her, and both my mum & dad would take my brothers and I to the Drive-In to watch the latest films (this is where my love for ROCKY began!). When not watching movies, I was trying to figure out ways to pull the back off the TV so I could somehow get into it and be a part of all the action on the screen! In 2007 I started as a regular contributor to We Love Movies. This means that I get to watch movies, talk about them and even interview some of my screen idols. I’ve interviewed the likes of Robert Pattinson, Ryan Reynolds, Daniel Craig, Uma Thurman, Colin Farrell, Cameron Diaz, and U2, to name but a few. One of my favourite interviews for We Love Movies was the one where I ended up sitting on Ashton Kutcher’s lap! Interviewing Sylvester Stallone would be a dream come true for me. I also appear regularly on Plan B to talk movies with Michelle Beatty as well as regularly contribute to Moncrieff’s Movies and Booze segment on Newstalk 106-108. I co-presented channel 6’s (now 3e) movie show Take Six and have appeared on Ireland AM's Movie & I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here segments. Twitter: @SBellissimo
