Remakes, reboots, re-imaginings, whatever you want to call them, aren’t just happening on the big screen. TV is following suit.

CBS have announced today that it has given the go ahead for the development of a reboot, of the popular 70′s show, The Brady Bunch.

This means that Vince Vaughn will co-develop and executive produce this series

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Raising Hope‘s Mike Mariano will pen the project and executive produce alongside Lloyd Schwartz, son of the late Sherwood Schwartz, who created the original ABC sitcom that ran from 1969-74. Vince Vaughn, Victoria Vaughn and Peter Billingsley will also exec produce through the actor’s Wild West Picture Show Productions shingle.”

The (orginal) Brady Bunch  was “A story about a lovely lady, who was raising 3 very lovely girls, all of them had hair of gold, just like their mother, the youngest one in curls.

It was the story, of a man named Brady, who was busy with three boys of his own. They were four men, living all together, yet they were all alone.

Till the one day when the lady met this fellow, and they knew it was much more than a hunch. That this group would somehow form a family.  That’s the way they all became the Brady Bunch.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot will focus on the youngest Brady boy, Bobby, “a divorced Dad who remarries and starts a new family. It would include Bobby and his new bride’s exes and, like the original, feature their kids from previous marriages, along with the couple’s shared child.”

This isn’t the first time Hollywood has tried to reboot The Brady Bunch – remember the 2 Brady Bunch  films of the 90s (The Brady Bunch Movie and A Very Brady Sequel)? As well as this there was The Brady Brides featuring Marcia and Jan, as well as many TV specials and reunions. There is no word as yet, as to whether any of the original cast members will be involved in this project.

One thing I loved about the Bradys was that they would just spontaneously burst into song and, choreographed, dance. I wonder whether this will happen in the 2012 version? Here’s the Brady’s bursting into song during a shopping trip in The Brady Bunch Movie.

Here’s some more dancing and singing from the Brady kids (TV series)

I bet Jan will be happy to hear that this new series won’t be all about “Marcia. Marcia. Marcia.”

While we wait and see whether or not The Brady Bunch 2012 works, can a network in Ireland please re-run the original Brady Bunch?

That’s Entertainment!

About The Bellissimo Files

My name's Sarina Bellissimo and I am a TV/Movie junkie. I can’t remember a time when I wasn't fascinated by all things Hollywood/showbiz. I blame my parents! As a child my mum used to force me to watch Elvis Presley films with her, and both my mum & dad would take my brothers and I to the Drive-In to watch the latest films (this is where my love for ROCKY began!). When not watching movies, I was trying to figure out ways to pull the back off the TV so I could somehow get into it and be a part of all the action on the screen! In 2007 I started as a regular contributor to We Love Movies. This means that I get to watch movies, talk about them and even interview some of my screen idols. I’ve interviewed the likes of Robert Pattinson, Ryan Reynolds, Daniel Craig, Uma Thurman, Colin Farrell, Cameron Diaz, and U2, to name but a few. One of my favourite interviews for We Love Movies was the one where I ended up sitting on Ashton Kutcher’s lap! Interviewing Sylvester Stallone would be a dream come true for me. I also appear regularly on Plan B to talk movies with Michelle Beatty as well as regularly contribute to Moncrieff’s Movies and Booze segment on Newstalk 106-108. I co-presented channel 6’s (now 3e) movie show Take Six and have appeared on Ireland AM's Movie & I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here segments. Twitter: @SBellissimo
